Music Music Music
Objective The team is to create musical instruments and play a selection of tunes.
Purpose To investigate the Sound of Music.
Participants Teams of up to four.
Materials Left to the discretion of the participant.
  1. The tune or tunes must be played for a minimum of one minute and a maximum of two minutes.
  2. The band should contain at least three methods of making music (strumming, striking, etc.).
  3. No standard instruments or instrument part may be used.
  4. No electric amplifications may be used.
  5. No recorded music may be used.
  6. Teams must submit the name of the tune or melody in a sealed envelope prior to the performance.
Judging What Details Score (Max)
  Performance includes a 15-25 second solo   20
  Judges recognize the tune/tunes 3 x 15 points 45
  Each different method for making music 5 x 5 points each 25
  Uniqueness of each instrument 8 instr. x 5 points each 40
  Sounds good 1 - 10 points 10
  TOTAL   140
  Following the performance the judges will open the envelopes and compare their decisions.
