My Cup of Tea
Objective To brew a cup of tea.
Purpose To investigate the connection between mechanical energy and thermal energy.
Participants Teams of up to four.
Materials Water and tea bags are provided. Teams bring a pre-assembled heating device of their own making.
  1. Water will be heated by mechanical means only.
  2. Teams may use any equipment so long as it does not include sources of stored energy, for example, car batteries nor any equipment that needs to be plugged into the hydro sockets.
  3. No hazardous chemicals are allowed.
  4. Teams will make a cup of tea from cold water.
Judging The fastest team is awarded 10 points, the second fastest 9 points and so on.
