||To design a device that will support a mass. Thus showing the effect
of gravity upon a mass.
||To re-inforce the concepts of mass, gravity and weight.
||Teams of two or three.
||Rubber bands, short wooden dowels, paper clips, masking
tape, "C" clamps, weights, one sheet of paper 21.5 cm x
- Contestants have one hour to assemble the device.
- Contestants will put a mass on their device and increase the
mass until it is holding the maximum. As the maximum nears, weights
will be added in 1 kg increments until the device breaks.
- Once the device has broken, it is disqualified.
||The device holding the greatest mass is the winning device.
