Kickback Cart
Objective To construct a cart that will move the furthest and fastest backwards using the principle that a gun kicks back when it's fired.
Purpose To investigate the physics of recoil.
Participants: Teams of up to four.
Materials One block of wood, four nails, hammer, one elastic band, a standard weight given to each group.
  1. Cart will be limited to 12 cm X 24 cm.
  2. Students will be allowed one hour to construct the cart. The cart may already have its wheels attached.
  3. Materials provided must be the only ones used.
Judging The cart that moves the furthest wins. There will also be awards given to the cart with the fastest time to travel a pre-determined distance.
